An architectural masterpiece in Roubaix (France).
- The villa Carvois is so much more than an architectural masterpiece from between the 2 World Wars. An architectural manifesto, Villa Cavrois, the work of architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, a figure of the modernist school, was designed and built in Croix between 1929 and 1932 for Paul Cavrois, a textile industrialist from the Nord department, and his family. This construction is a model of homogeneity
- between architecture, décor and furnishings.
Trigger
- But what triggers my senses beyond the magnificent architecture is the history of its survival – During World War II, the villa was occupied by the German army and turned into barracks – and the perseverance of the people who worked so hard to bring this villa back to its original state of art.
- Thirteen years were needed to restore the villa and park to their original state of 1932. This exceptional project required specialized historical and archaeological research, and mobilized the expertise of highly skilled craftsmen to reproduce the designs of Mallet-Stevens as faithfully as possible.
